Not being an avid collector of Indian badges, I am looking for advice on a badge I have recently acquired. It is the 12th Frontier Force Regt, KC above a bugle with 12 under the cords, two scrolls, F.F. and REGt, chromed, measuring 35mm wide and 26mm deep. Is this a collar or cap badge?

On further inspection, I notice marks on the reverse of the crown which when I looked was a makers name, possibly JRG and the hallmarks for Birmingham 1946-47. Why chrome a hallmarked silver badge?

Sorry no picture available.

It is a cap badge. I have one in standard cast Indian silver. This is the regular cap badge design since 1922. I cant be sure if this is the case with yours, but frequently one encounters Indian made badges complete with markings that were copied when the maker used an original badge as the mold model.

Thanks CB, I was not sure that it was a cap badge, of course, if it was cast from an original silver badge the makers marks and hallmarks would be there but indistinct as this one is.

Any ideas on what they wore for collar badges?

I find collar badges are a real problem when it comes to Indian Army regiments.
Some had none at all, some had them for officers only. Sometimes collar badges were prescribed for a regiment for a period of time, and then seem to have been discontinued.
Generally, collar badges were not usually worn by most Indian Other Ranks.
It may be that the FF regiments did not wear collars at all in keeping with British Rifle regiments.
