Indian badges
As I said in a previous thread, these I think are the most difficult badges to say with any certainty that they are genuine originals even when you have them in your hand, let alone a screen image.
Unless a badge comes from a veteran who acquired it during service in WWII (pre partition) then it is almost impossible for me to to say. There may be collectors who specialise in badges from the sub-continent who know, but I for one don't. |

Hi,
There are likely some genuine badges in this lot but I do not like the look of the "9th Madras Native Infantry" (£55, in extreme right-hand column) which seems a reproduction. I have a genuine badge which I have shown on the Indian forum. Cheers, Tinto |

I would agree with Sonofacqms with regard to Indian badge's pre 1947 (and post)it can be a mine-field.I buy when they come from 'back of an old draw' scenarios and with some kind of provenance, it is possibly easier with some officers badges in silver but again beware,as you can see their are no hard and fast rules here, another problem with other ranks 'sand cast' badges is they can be reproduced as the originals were, thus who knows whats what?.With regards to QC's examples there are certainly a lot there that i would take a punt on.If you are interested give them an email and ask for a provenance, they could well have bought them as a collection, and i have always found them very helpful.Regards.Phil.

Hello Michael,
I concur with what has been said so far. In view that the prices of these advertised badges are fairly high, I would be very careful. Ask the vendor if returns are acceptable if you are not completely satisfied. Here are a couple of my cavalry badges for comparison. Cheers, Tinto |
