I may have been trying too hard by St George
Hi all,
Out and about this morning and popped into an antique shop and my wife spotted this badge/broach and said wasn't it like some Scottish ones I have. Well at first I thought it was a non-miltary Scottish broach that was using the Order of the Thistle background and then mounting St George and the Dragon within it with (something like For) St George written below. But then I remembered the St George's English Rifle Regiment as an Australian badge that has a St George motif and the Northumberland Fusiliers and the Middlesex RVC etc I just had to bring it home. It is 50x50mm cast silver with a broach fitting and attaching semi-circular ring to the top. In all my reference books I cannot find a badge that fits it so I think I have just tried too hard and unless someone can tell me otherwise which would be rather nice - it remains a Scottish broach. But why mix a Scottish symbol and an English one - artistic cultural license perhaps. Anyway I tried and have praised my loving wife for thoughtfulness in looking ! Cheers Dean. |

Dean,
This badge dosn't say "Scotland or England" to me but instead says "Africa". Perhaps some of the Sout Africian lads can help. Eddie |
