Default 8th Bn CEF Cap Badge

These photos are from a post card. The three soldiers appear to be wearing the 8th Bn CEF cap badge. The photo is not quite clear enough to get better detail. The interesting point is that they appear to be wearing the 8th Bn cap badge with a white metal or silver overlay on the banner at the bottom of the badge. There is a commonly held belief that if the 8th Bn cap badge has an overlay on it then it is an officers' cap badge. It is an interesting photo of three relaxed soldiers.

Could it be the 90th Winnipeg Rifles badge? Many of the 8th originals wore that badge.

JP and Bill:
Thank you for the input. It is too bad this post card photo isn't clearer. I did wonder about the 90th Winnipeg Rifles with the deeper band on the bottom of the banner to accommodate the 90th Winnipeg Rifles wording. That said the banner does appear to be a constant thickness from left to right in the photos. I do like the picture that JP posted. In my collection I have 8 cap badges to this unit and they are all different. The really nice ones that are in a deep bronze, nicely blackened and or sterling silver do not have an overlay on the banner. The other ones that are also nice do have an overlay. In my experience the "with overlay" ones are slightly more common. I guess all that to say the badges from the 8th came from many sources and were produced in a lot of different finishes. I do wonder if the common thinking of "overlay = officer" might not apply in all of the badges with this unit.

Hello Bill.

There is also the 144th Winnipeg. And the 190th N°4. I try to find it.
I like Canadians. There are far too many in the military cemeteries in my area.

Respect.

I have this one for 144th... Brass I think.
Happy end of the year.

Jean Paul.

Hello Jean-Paul, I will let the others give an opinion, but I think your badge is one of the repros that were being peddled by a British dealer.
