QUEENS not QUEEN'S?
I recently acquired a GM 'regular' pattern shoulder title to the Queen's Regt which clearly has no apostrophe. Westlake doesn't appear to show such a variation on any of the titles to the regiment (regular, TA or otherwise). Can anyone supply further information on this version? Thanks!

I cannot comment on The Queens but in the case of the Kings Regiment, I cannot recall seeing an actual metal title without the apostrophe.
The same is not true of cap or collar badges where there are variations with and without apostrophe`s The attached picture is of a die for a 2/LSC/ KINGS ( no apostrophe ) metal title and not only am I not 100% certain if it is meant to be for a Kings Liverpool Regiment unit and it may well be that no titles were made from the die. In the case of cloth titles for The Kings Regiment, most seem to have apostrophe's but there are exception with WW1 and WW2 slip on titles. It seems in the case of The Kings, the regiment could not make up its mind if there should or should not always be an apostrophe. That might also be that case with The Queens. Peter

Actually, there was an AO of 1920 (can't remember complete reference) which tried to introduce STs without possessive apostrophes. I didn't think that any were made presumably because of the affront to correct grammar !
However, your example makes one think ..... (There was a fuss about Firmin making KLR badges with THE "KINGS" on them opposed to the correct version made by Gaunt marked THE KING'S !) |

Here's a pic. It's the same size as the more usual pattern, but there is a difference in the format of the letters.
