Default Essex and South Staffs for opinions please ???

Hi all

Would appreciate any opinions on these 2 common cap badges please.

Think the Essex is ok (going by my way of braising holes)
Just went on slider for the Staffs one (Looked in Gallery for comparison and my new book Thanks to Simon - Longshanks for the advice)

Finding it hard to go off photos as makers variations put douts in my mind if it doesn't match the book.

Both been cleaned as usual to see if they hide any mysteries of ageing.

Thanks for looking

Paul.

I don't know whether they're good or not but full marks for your cleaning.

Paul always give mine a clean washing up liquid ,silver dip for H.M .S or plate
Never could see why platina i.e dirt makes some items collectable and a sign of age If I over clean I just leave them outside to ''age ''

Hi David

Exactly my friend the same thoughts here, I think the more it looks dirty the more sins it can hide.

They look really nice cleaned and air tarnishes them very quickly.

Have a look in my album you can see some nice tarnishing there.

Paul.

I have never understood why people want to make a genuine old badge look like a last weeks restrike.
Each to his own.

Eddie have you ever tried to clean a 70/80 's restrike or one made last week in white metal to get it to look like a genuine badge Nearly impossible since they in 99% of cases always have a greyish tint Same with gm/brass can spot the difference a mile away Including my bellhop shako ,albert shako's ect etc cleaned when first purchased now toned
