Army Printing & Stationary Service
Sounds an interesting unit, if indeed it was a military unit and not a civilianised job. At a guess (if military) I would think Army Ordnance Corps. Again guesswork, but it sounds like the sought of job that would be offered to disabled soldiers towards the end of the war in order to replace men of better medical grades.

The IWM mentions the Royal Engineer printing section so maybe the RE cap badge??

Seems the OR's were mainly RE, but the officers were listed as APSS and mostly civil servants given a rank..... :/ I thought RE, or possibly General List?

RE I think because it was also linked to the topography & overprinting of maps.
In the early 70's there was a Map Depot in BAOR run by the RE's but by that time the RAOC had the Printing Trade since the McLoad Reorg in 1965. But most printing was done by HMSO in London & Manchester. |

I have officers' buttons to ROYAL ENGINEERS SERVICES. Often wondered what they did; perhaps this is the answer.
Best wishes Gordon |
