RAF Horse Brass
I was recently asked by a Canadian collector if the badge shown here was worn on RAF Horses. I have already asked the question on the RAF Police site (the main users of horses pre and post war) to no avail. Does anyone know of these being used or is it just a generic item used for decoration, or by any of the Station riding clubs that have existed over the years.

Horse brasses. Many are made as 'collectables' and are not original tackle decoration. There is a generic test. True horse brasses will have two tangs on the rear - or what remains of them. These were used to secure the brass decoration to the leather straps so they dont flap about.
Copies or collectable tourist pieces do not 'generally' have these pins or tangs on the rear as they are for decoration only. Hope that helps Dave Bess Last edited by bess55; 14-05-20 at 05:01 PM. Reason: Shabby spelling |
