Thanks for posting info Destro, since my retirement I don't get to see the latest insignia issued to staff.I will have to get in contact with ex colleagues and persuade one to get me one.
Wish I knew someone who could get me a metal Jersey Prison Cap Badge ? Regards Bantam |

Bantam,
Put up your photo of Barry John as a swap and you might get one. I'll add my bottle that once held bitter ale to sweeten the deal. Cofion gorau, Drwg 41ef |

Sut mae 41ef,
Sorry to say photo of Barry John went in 1990 to get an RWF badge. In fact come to think of it all of my rugby memorabilia has gone on badges. It's a pity Wales can't replicate the players they had in the 70' I might have been able to get some more items to swap for prison stuff ??? I had better stop there or we will be receiving adverse mail from forum members saying this mail has nothing to do with badges. Hwyl Bantam |

I remember a little while ago you reminding me to collect everything that is current as one day it will be wanted, and you was right my old collecting friend. I'll get as much as I can together and post a photo for you. Just remind me what year you retired (and have you seen the stamped HMP baton holders)?

Hi HMPbadges,
I'm glad that you took my advice and that it had been of some help.I have been able to aquire one or two new items including a leather baton holder although it's insignia that I am more interested in.I finished in 2006 and I would love to see what you have that is new since then. Hwyl Bantam. |

Well Bantam I'm sure you may have seen a few, but it looks like the specialist/workshops and others trying to keep off the landings all wear various type of polo shirts with a silly little logo now.
We are all required to wear the bell type Police badge now on our "fleece" jackets and the so called all weather coats that go over the top of them, but this patch is simply on a flap that folds into the outer left breast pocket and nobody uses them as they just hang there and as you can imagine, your average Warder wears the fleece to and from work as well so the patch is never seen. Those that are in T-Shirts/Polo's permanently (PEO's and C&R instructors etc) have these sewn on and are permanent. Ours are all black and there's are each a different shade of dark blue and PEO blue. And for all we get asked what we would like displayed on the patch each year when we order uniform online, so some have pips, most just have the establishment name and some have SO so and so or just Officer ......... Some even have where they work (DSG etc). We have the new eppaulettes as well with the silly red crown that only the new guys wear. Most of us still have the type you probably wore with the numbers at the bottom and HM Prison Service logo with small crown logo on top. I'll get some stuff together and post it on here but as we all have numbers etc I'll PM some other bits as we.

New Pattern Badge
Hi HMPbadges,
When I asked you for information on the issue of new insignia since 2006 I wondered if you had spotted that even the metal cap badge now only worn on special occacions has also been altered slightly.Although the makers Firmin,Gaunt and the London Badge Company are all one of the same company producing badges the slider on the latest pattern now bares the name London Badge Company not Gaunt, the cushion on the crown is larger and the star points sharper(as are the female pattern made by the same maker). The titles and E.R are also larger on the latest badge in contrast to the other.
