Default Khaki Household Cavalry cap?
I assume this to be a Khaki Household Cavalry cap, it would have been rude not to buy at a fiver!
Have I identified it correctly? Apart from the cap badge is it missing chin strap and buttons?

The 'slashed' peak says H/Cav, but it could also be Kings Troop RHA.

Reading the Rank of Cpl inside on the sweatband would probably discount an Artillery connection, could ofcourse be a Regiment attached to the Household Cavalry, perhaps RAVC or similar.

I pulled down the leather "look" sweat band and found this MPS patch tucked inside!
Military Provost Staff I assume??

The one I have has a Royal Horse Guards cap badge and a leather chin strap with buckles either side. They're worn by the Riding Master and other instructors at the stables. There's a YouTube documentary which I think is called 'The Queen's Cavalry' which shows them wearing it.

Badges with sliders were usually inserted through a small central slit cut into the upper horizontal seam. That would match with the Military Provost Staff provenance. The Service Dress cap was worn at various times by some surprising units:

1. Household Cavalry (all regiments).
2. Royal Military Police (with red cover).
3. King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.
4. Military Provost Staff (at MCTC and earlier Glasshouse).
5. Small Arms School Corps (until 1970).
6. Royal Army Veterinary Corps (attached Household Cavalry).

It’s not slashed Chris and is already at that angle when issued, although some do slash it to be completely vertical. It’s an interesting cap historically in that it’s specification is very similar to the original 1905 pattern that was so iconic at the beginning of WW1, with the same small peak set at a downward angle.

Toby spot on with the slit, hadn't noticed it thanks for the heads up.
Anodised cap badge now fitted.
I've acquired a brown leather chinstrap, whether this is the correct one for the cap I've no idea, any help appreciated.
Just need pair of MPS cap buttons now.

Unfortunately the strap you have is an officers one for their more modern style WW2 + SD cap. The type you require is narrower at 3/8inch and most significantly has a brass frame type buckle on each side**.

You can get them on eBay listed as: “Genuine Military Issue Brown 3/8" Fully Adjustable Leather Chin Strap CS25“.

**back in the day these had to be highly polished and the leather strap bulled to a high gloss via shoe wax.
