WVS N.A.A.F.I. badge - WW2?
Does anyone know the origins of the WVS N.A.A.F.I. badge? It seems to be quite a rare badge and does not feature in any books.
It seems to have been a bit overlooked - and could be quite valuable, if it is wartime, because after D-Day, no more than 730 WVS served Overseas, many at NAAFI Leave Clubs. The WVS monogram would seem to suggest it was WW2. However, I have found a record that the WVS served at overseas NAAFIs until the 1960s, so it might also not be so valuable! It has no maker's name on the back. |

it is a 1960's version of the original badge one worn in WW2 which did not have hte NAAFI tab at the bottom. I twa s worn at the closed collar of the shirt. It is shown in Jon Mills "Formation Sign" issue on the NAAFI, page 22. This is my understanding from Jon's excellent journal.
I've not ever seen one with a maker mark, btu all the ones I've seen do have a small ring on the back at the bottom for a small chain and safety pin to help prevent loss. The one in my collection has part of the chain, but the pin is no longer there. Hope this helps, Terry |

Cannot give you a definite answer but I have 2 of these, neither are maker marked and both have the small ring on the back for the safety chain, which in my case is missing.
Both were brought fairly cheaply. engr9266

The WVS were definitely involved in Overseas NAAFI Leave Clubs in 1944. Quote:

Thanks everybody - should have asked here first - that's £25 down the Swannee - just shows, after 35 years collecting, it is still possible to make buying errors!
However, I do have something genuine WW2 WVS Overseas for you to see... |

I would not say it is a loss, as you an always offer it for sale or trade, as it is a legitimate badge, just maybe not WW2. This is the badge I associate with WW2, and it seems more common to find.

Thanks chaps! You've helped me date one of these badges that I acquired in a small lot recently.
It has no maker mark and has the small ring to the lower crescent. |
