Default Colour Sgt.

VB C/sgt wearing VLSGC medal and a four bar QSA, nice array of arm badges.

Extremely good photo Ron. When to you think it was taken c.1902? The arm badge appears to have a Victorian crown. What about the shoulder title? Wearing trews - could he be HLI? Maybe a silly question but why VB?

Thanks

Bryan

The QSA wasnt issued until 1903/04 so itrs around that date despite the QVC badge and waist belt clasp which just goes to show that men were in no rush to replace their badges and kit.

Its a VB because of the VLS&GC Medal, the Proficiency star above the Colour badge and the numerous efficiency badges.

A socially interesting point are the rings that he is wearing and the hair protruding from the bonnet.

Indeed, if it were not for the medal, one would likely date this as Victorian.
QVC insignia were worn for many years by those that still had them, particularly in volunteer battalions. It took quite some time before all supplies in QM stores were replaced by newer KC insignia.
This applies to KC to QC insignia as well in the 1950s.

The WBC looks as if it could be Dumbartonshire volunteers or similar design.

The WBC is the standard generic Royal Crest General Service Patter.
