Hi Billy

I know it doesn't really help in identifying the badge but it is definately NOT a Royal Navy badge. It's probably related to the Mechant Navy in some way.

Like Pete said, definitely not Royal Navy, It could be a shipping line, either British or foreign or it could be for a civil airline or a transport company such as buses or trams. Sorry doesn't identify what it is, only what it definitely isn't.

David B Howell or Btns on here are usually pretty good at identifying badges (and buttons) like this?

Tony, thank you for your remark.

Billy,
The Isle of Wight Central Railway used a monogram IWC on their buttons. It is different from your cap badge, but it is worth investigating. With its big letter W it is a 'fitting' monogram.
If it is, then the railway collectors will hunt you down.
best regards,

best regards,
The Isle of Wight Constabulary also used buttons IWC (intertwined) surmounted by a King's Crown. That said, I can confirm that the badge under discussion is not police related. As an aside, the badge seems (to me) to display the letters TWC.

Dave.

Indeed, it is T.W.C.
There was a Western Telegraph Company which owned cable ships, but their houseflag had the letters WTC.

Btn,s looking at the Badge and your comment on the "Western Telegraph Company" the "W" in this badge is larger than the others would that not mean it is the main word? That would fit with your idea perfectly?

Well tried looking it up with no joy apart from looking at Pembrokeshire local newspaper! Cheers billy

Yes, the W is the main letter in this monogram.
Perhaps you can contact the owner of this website: http://atlantic-cable.com/

Eastern Telegraph Company buttons have their house flag letters thus 'eTc' (all capitals but the central T larger and more prominent).

O/K thanks to btns for the link contacted the gentleman but has never seen this badge before But! thinks the 2 crossed pipes? Are to represent the Cables for underwater Telegraph Cables! He is sending picture onto someone else for their opinion?

I am amazed how people (btn,s in this case) can come up with stuff from the web? I came up with the Pembrokeshire Western Telegraph Newspaper!

Will let you know how this pans out! Thanks you all for your imput! Billy

I think the pipes represent branches of the laurel wreath.

Most of my data is pulled from an indexing system I started working on around 20 years ago.
Its original objectives were 'confirm identity' and 'do I need it?' It continues to expand.
Trying to confirm identities helped me develop recognition and search skills.

Hi btn,s the tubes, pipes are actually representative to the cables being layed on the Ocean floor, also this was apparently worn on Uniform Sleeve above Rank? Not the hat as I thought! Cheers billy
