Default ....another interesting Motto (V Eyes)

Hi All

This Motto belonged to Trooper Frank Bentley of the 17th/21st Lancers and was attached with a letter from his Troop Leader, 2/Lt Peter Hornby (4 Troop B Sqn), that was addressed to Trooper Bentleys Mother. The letter was dated 5th July 1954 and was sent from BAOR12.

Very polished high points, white metal with the WW2 beret safety slide clip.

Thanks Phil ..... note.... there are no flat spots in the eye sockets.... they go back to points. Thats not to say the later Mottos of this type with flat spots are wrong..... but I would suggest they are later strikes as the die got older.

A safety slide inside the beret to stop the badge slipping out.

I might add that those clips were often dispensed with, if issued at all. A good idea that never really caught on.

I would have thought that the presence of the clip upon the reverse of the piece in the opening post does suggest, very clearly, that some were certainly issued.

I did not intend to imply that they were never issued. They are actually rather rare to find accompanying a badge.
