Mystery Waffenadler modern?
Righto, I came across this a while ago. Not really my thing. A waffenadler, yes but vintage? I burned a thread and gave it the sniff test. Not synthetic. It's pristine though so I would certainly be open to a determination of 'modern manufacture'. Theatrical? The tape is 39mm tall or so and very thin.
These turned up on pretty much every German uniform didn't they? Ideas? |

This type of eagle was worn by several formations,
- Army: grey-white on field grey - Navy: coastal artillery yellow on field grey SS and Waffen-SS wore a different type of eagle. This machine woven type was introduced in the late 1930s, may be 1938/39 and a larger version was worn by enlisted men up to NCO´s on the right brest of the service dress jackets, none on the greatcoat. A smaller version on the visorless field service cap. This looks like the larger eagle for jackets and yellow on field grey (more green than grey) and so like Coastal Artillery. They are common and not rare, but also faked in mass. Looks not bad, but i am not an expert for this era and sorry i can give no expertise if it is genuine. Regards Markus |

And Thanks Jerry.
I got a bunch of stuff that had been picked up by a Jr. officer who had been in the Netherlands with the Canadian Irish in the Leeuwarden - Heerenveen area. He saved EVERYTHING. There's even a copy of Wofur Kampfen Wir? with the front cover torn off and he's written something like "I got this book from where some Germans were staying" on the first page. I guess it would make sense he would have picked up this badge there.
Thanks. |

It does appear to be a genuine Coast Arty Bevo woven cap eagle. Unused, these are pretty common.
