Default London UOTC KC Gold Anodised

Chris,
this is one that seems to be missing from most lists of Anodised badges, it a King's Crown London UOTC, with "H.W. TIMINGS LTD B'HAM" on the slider in gold anodised. Included one on a white background for your list!

Best wishes - Andy

Hi Guys,

New badge being:

OTCU31 - University Of London OTC - Kings Crown (Gold)

Timings badge with all the things one would expect to see from this maker.

Might have a West Yorkshire by the same company to post later - currently awaiting answers to some makers attributes from the owner.

Regards

Chris

Default Suffolk & Norfolk Yeomanry

Hi Chris,
Heres another one for the web pages. It's a Suffolk & Norfolk Yeomanry cap badge made by J.R Gaunt London with a gold scroll instead of the usual silver scroll on the wording "Suffolk & Norfolk Yeomanry".
Looks like a mistake to me.
Regards.

Great images Peter, had a close look at the D&D badge and noticed the black marks on the turrets.
Im wondering if the badge was originally a blackened beret badge,i know it was worn as std for a time rather than the gold and silver version which was worn in the No1 dress hat.If the badge was a blackened version then was it produced as all silver then blackened rather than silvered then the gold added after, then blackened. If this is the case, were all the one colour error badges meant to be blackened ? It would explain a reason for here being a 1 colour version of a 2 colour badge existing.

The reason it is all silver is because someone cocked up at the factory and missed the second colouring process. Colours are sealed into the aluminium as one of the final stages of the anodising process and when done the badge cannot be re-dyed. Black paint found on some of those 'rare' varients is in fact a dye masking barrier to protect the first colour from being 'over-written'.

There are hundreds of badges out there being sold as rare colour varients which are either unfinished examples or factory mistakes so beware of what you purchase.

I will though include all such badges as, and when I have time in the web pages but all members here must realize that these pages contain:

A) Unifinished examples re: missing colours and lack of voiding
B) Factory mistakes re: wrong colours or no colours
C) Unofficial commissions

In order of dodgy anodised badges per count of items the order appears to be C), A) then B). i.e. there are more unofficial commission items out there that look genuine but were never authorised for issue than factory cock-ups.

Out and out fakes though are relatively rare but do exist.

I will in time sort these out and aim to do it in the last quarter of this year when I have reasearched more collections and archival records in various UK military establishements and record offices.

Regards

Chris

Default answers on a post card please

Gents,
question time for all you staybrite/anodised alluminium buffs. Anyone got any idea what the attached is? It is totally anodised alluminium and with a 3-dimentional high relief. I have been told it may be a senior NCO's cap badge for the Seaforth Highlanders, but I have never encountered such a beast in anodised alluminium before. It has a slider marked J R GAUNT LONDON. The images are not great I know, but should give you an idea, especially if you recognise it.

Thanks chaps, regards all

Bess

Gents,
For information some more unusual anodised examples. The RTR is gold and is GAUNT marked and has clearly been worn, as has the silver Royal Scots and the silver Intelligence Corps.

Chris, I think I've already sent you these plus others of this ilk.

Regards all

Bess
