Default Wm. Dowler & Sons Ltd.

Wm Dowler and Sons is noted for their service whistles, but they also made badges. Does anyone know the badges they made? And did they use a distinctive maker mark?

Cap and one collar marked Dowler Birmingham. 1 collar marked Wm. Dowler & Sons Ltd Birmingham. Interestingly the cap badge is marked twice.

William Dowler & Sons of Birmingham were founded in 1774 and amalgamated with Firmin in 1969.

Rgds, Thomas.
Whilst they were bought out by Firmin, the two Companies operated as separate entities and from separate premises. The Dowler company name still exists and is used, presumably for tax reasons by Firmin.

They were also the makers of thousands of those date bars that were suspended from St John Ambulance members' badges. The earlier ones being silver.

The firm entered at least three marks (W.D&S and WD&S) with the Birmingham Assay Office.

Thank-you for the responses. Does anyone have a Canadian badge marked to Dowler?

I have anodised examples with
WM Dowler Bham
Dowler Birmingham
On the slides. But my Light Infantry HM silver belt plate was one of theirs too. I shall check the date and which silver mark was used. The other 2 LI belt plates are theirs too judging by the crowns and screwpost positions.
