Everything Comes to He Who Waits? - 49th (West Riding) Div Reconnaisance Corps
Some things you have to wait longer for than others!
This is what a genuine 49th (West Riding) Division "Reconnaissance Corps" cap badge should look like (KK 1926) with the "Rose" inset rather than overlaid! Thank you Mr eBay! Andy Last edited by 2747andy; 12-11-14 at 07:48 PM. |

Nice find Andy, pity it has a bit of damage to the point of the arrow head.

Thanks Guys,
The badge came in at £47.75 including P&P, I feel that was a bargain as it's one you seldom see for sale! As for the missing tip it looks more like a die issue than damage? I beleive the unit was raised in Porthcawl (?) or certainly did a lot if predeployment training in the area, so perhaps it has come home? Andy Last edited by 2747andy; 12-11-14 at 10:35 PM. |

So what you're saying Andy is that a load of roughy tufty Yorkshire men were in Porthcawl carrying out training during WW2?
I hope you're not trying to claim you have Yorkshire blood are you? |

Ivan,
There's a plaque here in the town on one of the old training areas, I will go and "Recce" what it says Andy |

Ivan,
The whole area was a hive of activity during WW2, I actually live in what was Danygraig Tented Camp, which has long since been developed as a housing area! I was totally oblivious to It's previous use before I bought my house and have since discovered the old gallery ranges which are still nestled in the dunes, even the target frames are still there along with the "Butts" and tapping in points for field telephones! Yorkshire might be okay for basic training but for a proper blow out you needed and still have to come to Wales! Andy |

Yes, it'll be nice to see that, I'm always interested in the forgotten part of where regiments served.
(alright, I concede, its a bloody nice badge)! Ivan |

Ouch! That's was nasty but true. For beauty, its got to be the Yorkshire moors and dales but for downright pain and suffering, its got to be the Welsh hills! Ivan |

I'm Pretty sure I've no Yorkshire genes as my arms and hands can reach right to the bottom of my pockets, however it seems some of your county found something to stay here for? http://www.kenfig.org.uk/waryears/49...recon_regiment Seems the 49th were formed in Porthcawl in September 1942, a dream came true!
