Mike, That is the fully embroidered pattern. Cadets wore this and it may have been worn on the Garrison Dress uniform. It dates to the 1990's.

Hi Ed, Do you have more information about that policy? It is odd that they would bring that into effect after such a long period.

Naming Convention
Unfortunately I do not have any solid details other then an example of the badge and memory of a conversation with a 1H SNCM in the mess in the 1990s. I was surprised to see that the 1st Hussars badge was being worn on Garrison Dress and he told me something to the effect that CF naming convention dictated that the Regiment change the badge to read 1st as opposed to First.
I have no idea of this still was the actual story of if the convention still applies. |

Does any Forum member have an answer to the the two fully embroidered titles, as to when they were in wear?

I believe that the Army Cadets started wearing fully emboidered titles when they adopted the CF green uniforms in the 1970s. Subsequently, militia regiments adopted them when the Garrison Dress came out in the 1980s.

Hi Phil, Yes, that is understood. The question is in relation to "1st" vs "FIRST" being used on their titles.

Looking at the DHH lineage document for the regiment, it appears that other than the use of the word "FIRST" in the cap badge design, the official unit title has always used the "1st" designation. It is likely that the embroidered title with "FIRST" was simply a staff duties error variant.

Hi, I'm not quite sure what the description means when it says "FIRST HUSSARS" is a form of the regimental title, if it does not mean that is the title, am I missing something, best wishes Mike

Thanks for the link Michael. The "1st" is the incorrect designation, but how it came to be on the title is likely not going to be easy to track down.

The "1st Hussar" title was also produced in green and gold for the CF uniform, it may be a legacy from that.

Well, I should check my own files before commenting...
I have the 1st Hussars fully embroidered pattern in the CF binder, with a note that it was taken into wear in 1991-92. It was worn on the Garrison Dress. It was taken into use just as the CF long style titles were being taken out of wear. I suspect Bruce's answer is part of the answer. Now the question is why did the CF green long title end up with the incorrect designation?

Now, when was the fully embroidered title revised to "First"?
