Hi all, just a thought, I think one of the key differentiators with "customized" hat badges is that some were allowed to be worn in uniform while others were more like patriotic jewelry or memorials to loved ones those in the service. I'm pretty sure that badges with coins or pictures inset into were not intended for wear in uniform.

Badges altered by "doming" to create a 3-D effect (Seaforths or RCAF) or selected polishing (BCDs, Lincoln and Welland) were worn with semi-official sanction.

Default Royal Canadian Artillery CEF?

Recieved this one in lot some time ago, perhaps a Royal Artillery modified by a Canadian soldier, was worn by the looks of it.

Default Seaforth WW2 Modified

I have seen many variations on this theme, troops would bend out the antlers to give a more 3D effect.
