Default Fake Tank Corps splinter masks...

This has started to annoy me I have Noted a lot of fake Tank Corps splinter masks being sold on eBay and on sadly on dealer sites as genuine....just spotted another fake with a large price tag....
The give away is the nose piece which is either to flared and projected out or just to flat ...they never seem to get it correct .the rear lining is always wrong , it should be pale chamois ..fakes tend to have darker material to the rear ...Stitching should be thick ...off white, pale brown.
If anyone is planning to spend silly money on one please do your research first , handle the genuine article first,so you can easily spot the fake from the genuine article ...saves wasting a lot of money ..
Kind wishes
Steve

Ta, I'd noticed these turning up but have never examined an original (not that I can afford good or bad).

One has just appeared on a well known dealer’s site
Anyway I don’t think it’s a deliberate act, it’s genuine lack of knowledge

Default splinter masks

they are turning up at provincial auction houses all around the country as are WW1 aerial darts of all shapes & sizes. Clearly someone is touring the country handing these things to the auction houses in the hope that collectors will assume that if its from a provincial auction, it probably comes from a house clearance and is therefore original. At least Dug Up have the decency to say they are museum quality repros.
