The British battledress blouse changed over time and each variation was known by a different pattern number from the date it was introduced, though the first pattern was known as the battle dress blouse serge introduced in 1937, then came the 40 pattern, then in 42 came the 40 pattern austerity which very rarely is seen labelled as a 42 pattern, which continued until the end of the war, then in 1946 the 46 pattern was introduced, then the 47 pattern in 1947, but the 46 and 47 patterns continued side by side in production until the introduction of the 49 pattern in 1949.
Yours in a 46 pattern made in 1946 and is the least commonly seen of all British battledress patterns. The neck should close with a tab of fabric and a button which was first used by the Canadians on their late war battledress blouse.
