Fife & Forfar Yeomanry
Purchased this queens crown Fife & Forfar Yeomanry
cap badge on our favourite auction site. What are members opinions to its authenticity and why? Thanks Gordon

This badge has been widely faked. The Gaunt Bham mark is probably a little late for this badge. By the time this unit was formed it was usual for a/a badges to be the norm so any w/m ones would have to have been early ones or private purchase.

as pointed out by Alan, this is a post 1970 Gaunt restrike. Badges made by Gaunts and bearing the B'HAM mark, made solely for collectors! Although in some cases they could well have been worn by the odd individual who managed to acquire one! Andy |

A version of this badge was introduced in January 1952. It differed from the older pattern in that it was reduced in size only.
The paperwork I've seen doesn't specify the material in which it was produced, however, at that time I don't think anodised versions were an option. Stephen. |

Stephen,
You are mistaking this for the beret sized F&F Yeomanry badge. This is the 1957 Highland Yeomanry badge which was superseded by an a/a version in 1960. K&K Vol 2 provides the sealed pattern dates. The regt went into suspended animation in 1967 and the title passed to an RCT Sqn. I believe the badge stopped being worn in 1967 or so. Alan |
