How about; a slider was no good at keeping a sea going soldiersailors badge in his hat, so they asked the same maker to produce one with lugs, maker puts lugs closer to the center of the badge because he knows no different.

But dont trust that Engineer, i remember what he told me ......... but i never knew her, honest. Tony, What a great find, d'ya know what i'll have to show the others i have found lately, i actually have 2 complete sets of Cap & Collars, all with the die faults. I'll try and get them up for you all to see a little later on, but i'm up to my eyes with helping to organise the RCT's "Buller Barracks Last Farewell Parade" but it wont be long i promise.

An old thread, but a new acquisition (thank you Tony).

Note the round 'drilled' holes in the crown, a trait present on all these badges. Usually not a good sign regarding originality but apparently OK here.

Thanks for pointing that out - I hadn't noticed, do the holes in the badge in post no. 1 appear to be drilled?
These holes (the badge in post no. 25) have been drilled? (I haven't got the badge immediately to hand in order to try to ascertain how fragile the protrusions in to the voids may be, if they're solidly affixed or just fragile scarf like bits snagged as the drill bit or whatever was removed).
