Yes they are. Original knives ruined by a stamp. Shame, in my opinion.

I have my best original, issued to me 1945...but it is Kangol black.
I was a RAC Gun Fitter..and we used the loose thread For 'T & Aing'
Test & Adjust scope to barrel.
And mine still has the loose thread in.
I have a letter from Kangol and a free beret from them in reply to my letter to them.

I’m the same about FS knives, I won’t have one that has been stamped with the ‘England’ mark. Some collectors don’t mind.

Here is one of mine.
Is there any way of telling if it’s a navy issue one or an army issue one?

Nice couple of berets lads.
Yes there is a way of telling. The post war RM contract green berets had a half moon stiffener like the RM blue/red flash berets.
If you do get a replacement RM badge watch out for the restrikes. If you need to know what to look for let me know. Sorry if I’m teaching you to suck eggs

Thanks for the info but I meant in relation to wartime green berets not post war ones. Can one tell the difference between army and Royal Marines commando or were they the same?

I am also looking for a wartime red beret , can any one point me where one might be for sale?

That was what I was trying to say. War contract for green berets were army contracts made with out the half moon stiffener. The navy contract for their blue/red flash berets had the stiffener. After the war the RN had to get their own contract and had them made the same way as their blue berets.

I know where there is a lovely airborne beret

Just found this one on eBay. 352816606965

This is what to stay clear of. A very clear effort to fool the unwary, not saying it was done by the seller but as a dealer they should know better.

Check the difference with my beret and this one and you will see why mine is right.

That one was made after 1957. Possibly 1959 as the company did win a contract for maroon berets that year.

Whoever added a fake year of manufacture had a decent knowledge on how to date a beret; the date letter has been erased and the slider pocket has been unpicked. Still, enough details left to identify this as a post-war beret.

There are two for sale on eBay, one Kangol and one Supak. Both are good but 1945. I’m sure you can find more on dealers sites.

My one isn’t for sale
