Cloth signs wanted for a new book
I am working on a book on British Army cloth badges 1939 to 1967 covering those badges worn on BD, KD and jungle green. It will be fully illustrated in colour with real badges.
I have managed to find most of the known (and quite a few unknown) badges but am still looking for some. I attach drawings of two in particular I am after; The keys are the badge of Solent Garrison - this is illustrated in Col Cole's 1953 book Badges on Battledress and I have a contemporary note of it being worn. The second was worn by Libyan apprentices being trained by REME in the 1950s when there was a British garrison in the country. I am not looking to buy these badges but simply to obtain a decent scan - 300 dpi against a white background with a clear margin of white to allow for trimming. If anyone can help could they PM me and we can go from there. All contributions will be acknowledged in the book. Thanks in advance for any help Jon (Postwarden) |

Formation signs
Jon,
Great idea but I think Solent Garrison may be difficult to track down. I have seen a number of superb collections but never caught sight of this one. I have been told in the past that it was a letterhead/noticeboard sign. Mike Jackson (my former Cloth Guru) may be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck with the project, I can let you have a couple of images, I will look them out. MW aka ORISKANY |

Thanks for the email.
Mike does not have one. I got this image of the notice board from a Portsmouth museum but no sign so far. If I had not seen a contemporary record I would have doubted it too. But you never know... Regards Jon Postwarden |
