Duke of Canm's Own WBC
Hi All,
opinions welcome on this Duke of Cambridges own WBC please. Recently purchased. hardly any signs of any wear. bench marked '1' on each piece. Also, are WBC's reproduced ? probably silly question these days as just about everything is... Many thanks in advance, Mark |

Mark,
Badgeman2000 produced a large number of reproduction officers WBC a bout a year ago. They were good quality. We need to find a photo of one of those to compare the rivets on the back of the male portion to be sure. Personally I am leaning towards it being one of his copies. regards

Mark I was the under bidder on this - Garry Shotton was the seller It looked ok in the sale photos Was going to buy it as it was cheap for exchange I do have 5 officers waist belt clasps not to this regiment but to the Wiltshire and the pins/rivets are different to your purchase They are more like thick copper?? wire on the centre device There are no rivets on the ''bar ''

Marked just checked some other officers clasps to 62nd /militia /volunteers they have varying number of rivets on the bar from 1 to 3 I don't think therefore that the absence or presence of rivets is a problem its the material that they are made of

Cheers David,
yes it was cheap, hence my interest but I should learn from previous mistakes - being cheap doesn't always coincide with being good..Anyway, will return if turns out to be bad.Unfortunately, won't be the first time I've had to return items to Gary. Be safe, Mark |

Heres the thread that highlights the emergence of his fake WBC's.
Unfortunately the links dont work. Its always important to show the actual photos off ebay at the time but I dont know how to do it. It was only 3 months ago actually!!! https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ist+belt+clasp

To me, this WBC unfortunately just does not seem right. The quality is not up to what most are and it looks too new. Very thin silver wash with an odd wear pattern.

I dont think it's good.
GN militaria has one on,although it has damage to the wreath it looks good. The above the pins look new and are in different positions. Youd think the ends would have discoloured over time. The Male half looks as if the tongue part has been brazed to the loop and is ever so slightly thinner or is it my eyes. |

The pins are the giveaway to me. I have a number of WBCs and even the ones that were well maintained have very dark pins. The other thing that caught my eye is the lack/loss of definition to "Ich Dien" scroll. No other highlights show similar wear, even those immediately adjacent. The example on GN's site shows expected wear to the feathers, coronet, etc., as well as the scroll.

Not my area but something about the back catches my eye and really doesn’t look right. The detail on the front too doesn’t sit quite right either. I too think it’s a wrong ‘un and a worryingly good quality effort at that.
Was totally unaware badgeman had ventured into these. |
