Default Some Army Flying Badges

Hello,

I have picked up these Army Flying Badges and thought they may be of interest to some.

Not my speciality subject but I think they are all OK.

regards

Steve,

Thanks for the interest.

I was unaware the small ones were post war.

When were they introduced?

regards

Hi
I think 1952 ,though someone may have exact date for change over ,definet post war for half size , full size wartime seem to sell for around £175ish.
Half-size usually £75ish.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Steve

I have had several PM's about selling these badges.

I have therefore placed them in the sales section if anyone wishes to buy them

regards

The smaller pattern of the Army Flying Badge was introduced in June 1944 (see 'Badges on Battledress', p.395), although it is commonly regarded as a postwar pattern. It was certainly in use by late-1945/early-1946, as evidenced in contemporary photographs and the fact that some gents demobbed in early 1946 had already been issued with them. It does indeed tend to fetch less money than the larger/earlier pattern.

I am not fully convinced by one of the smaller Army Flying Badges (see first attached). The crown on the lion looks to be Queen's crown, the shape/size of the lion's face looks more similar to QC patterns, and the positioning of the King's crown between the wings is similar to a known 'fake' (see second attached). On the latter, it appears to be KC imposed on QC pattern.

I should mention that the other smaller pattern embroidered wings look like a really nice set of wings in mint condition. The bullion wings also really good!
