Default Help Identify Regiment from Cap Badge

The picture is of my granddad taken in 1917 - its on a Postcard indented with "Popular Studio Ipswich". He was born in Oxford but met his future wife in Canterbury, Kent around this time and is where the family still live. We are trying to identify his regiment from the cap badge - I have another picture where he is on horseback. A suggestion has been made - the 3rd Reserve Calvary which were based in Canterbury ? many thanks

Default Name

many thanks for all your help etc. His name was Alfred William Hemmings born I think Feb 1895 or 1896 in Oxford. To date I have not found any ref. to him in WW1 records eg via Ancestry & I don't know if/where he saw service abroad. I wonder what brought him to Canterbury, Kent about this time where he married a local girl ?

Hello,

His Medal Index Card is on line, he's entitled to a 1915 Trio and a Silver War Badge.

His SWB entry will also be on line.

regards

Would this be the one that later transferred to the Military Foot Police?

Yes, it would appear so on the information supplied.

As mentioned in post #5, his medal card is available on Ancestry. The Silver War Badge entry is also there and lists him as enlisting 18/12/11 and being discharged 12(?)/12/18. It also states that he served overseas.

Unfortunately, the service and pension records do not appear to have survived.

I hope this is of some help to you?

Andy

Many thanks in helping me trace my grandfathers WW1 records .
With ref. to overseas the Medal Index states Theatre of War (1) - can I conclude that the "1" refers to the Western Front, France ?.
I assume he was transferred to the MFP from the Queen's Own Oxfordshire Hussars during WW1 and at which point he became a Lance Corporal (from Private) ? I wonder where his medals are today - my mum didn't realise her dad was awarded any medals - sadly I never knew him as he died at age of 54 in 1948 - many thanks again.
