Boer War Cap Badge, Canadian
TORONTO.jpgInteresting use of Boer War cap badge design......
The badge is about 1/2 as thick as the cap badge and has a pin running across the back..... Without the ribbon it could very easily be mistaken for a cap badge..... I have now obtained not including the above 4 different versions of the Victorian Crown cap badge..... 1. Sterling Silver and Gold Officers. 2. Bronze Stamped Version 3. Bronze / Copper Coated? Stamped Version 4. Bronze Cast Version but NOT the one made for the MCC of C convention. I wonder how many Toronto Councilmen were around in 1900/1901 since it was not a very big city then..... Mike Thanks for posting the pictures for me Bill....... The first picture is the Silver Officers Badge, the gold portion is the Cross on the crown...... The ribbon on the other badge reads in full...... TORONTO WELCOMES *********** HER SOLDIERS *********** Home from South Africa 1900 City Council Thanks again Bill Mike Last edited by QSAMIKE; 13-04-08 at 03:38 PM. |

I wonder as well!
I have a nicely matched pair of cap and collars, made almost as a set,all marked J.R. Gaunt made in England. It was sold as "Boer War badges" but the consistency of the matching interested me.

I'm extremely jealous! I am doing some early research to put together a 1st Contingent Canadian Army Boer War uniform and I am aghast at how I am going to find a badge for the pith helmet and two collar dogs. Are these badges easy to come by at all? Where would you guys suggest one should start looking for such a thing?

Hi Jonathan,
Is that an original pith helmet you have? I have been trying to find one in order to photograph it for my upcoming book
