Default United Nations Pocket Fob Additions

Hi all, hopefully I'm putting these in the correct section Here are some new UN related pocket fobs I recently picked up. Not all were worn by Canadians, others I'm not sure and some are easy, based on the presence of a Canadian flag in the design.

The UNTSO - Syria, possibly worn by Canadians.
United Nations Line Engineers - Britain/Canada, yes but where?
PREVLAKA - no Canadian participation
UNPROFOR HQ SECTOR NORTH - Denmark, France and Poland
UNPROFOR ENGINEERS FOR THE SOLDIERS - no idea

In this lot, some are locally made and quite primitive (UN Line Engineers, UNTSO), other are very well made (UNPROFOR HQ SECTOR NORTH, PREVLAKA and ENGINEERS FOR THE SOLDIERS).
It's surprisingly hard to find information on these badges so if any reader knows anything about these please let me know.

Regards,

Greg

UNPROFOR. United Nations Protection Force. From the war in Yugoslavia early 90s.

UNTSO. Truce supervision. Could be Mideast or Yugoslavia

UNMO. Was a monitoring organization if I recall.

Many on these organizations rolled right out of Lebanon and Syria and into Croatia. The acronyms can be a bit confusing. A very interesting area of collecting but as you say not much information.

Canada being a big participant in many of these organizations. I had over the years amassed a sizable UN collection. I will start to photograph and post.

Many of these badges were locally made which is in line with the crude construction.

Thanks Irish, any information is most appreciated. I have a nice accumulation of UN mission fobs here: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...hp?albumid=957

Almost all were worn by Canadian troops but a few have slipped in the collection just because they are so attractive.

Greig, nice to see some more of these fob badges, especially the Engineer ones, which interest me, as you know, seeing as I got quite a lot from you.
Cannot help with any info but I do not recall the British/Canadian flagged being worn but who knows?
Do you have any more spares?
Here is my collection, which needs to be updated>

Default Fob Badges

The UNPROFOR ENGINEERS - FOR THE SOLDIER fob was designed by a Canadian Engineer at UNPFORFOR HQ in Zagreb and the badge became available if I remember correctly late in 1993. I think the HQ and Sector HQ Engineers wore the badge but not those in the Battlegroups. I wore mine on my combats and CF summer tan uniform. Here is an example of the fob.

I was with UNPROFOR HQ for a year (1993-94) and managed to get around to most of The Former Yugoslavia as well as Bosnia and FYROM. Being somewhat of a packrat I attempted to pick up any interesting insignia I saw so I managed to get a few foreign fobs, here is one of the nicer ones from the Polish Battalion.

I was back in Bosnia in 2000-2001 with NATO and of course there were various fobs still in use at that time, here is one from the SFOR Multinational Signals Group which included Canadians.

Thank you everyone for the comments and especially Ed as I would have never known the UNPROFOR ENGINEERS - FOR THE SOLDIER fob was Canadian without his comments

I'll keep my eyes open for the SFOR Multinational Signals Group which is as far as I know undocumented until now.

Greg

A few more I've added to my Album. All have a Canadian connection.

The BRABATT is interesting in that it is purported to be a vanity badge worn by the female Canadian Medical personnel during the UNEF II mission.

I will post some UN pieces as mentioned above. Possibly some duplication with Greg's posts.
