So, strictly on the subject of badges, are we are looking at velcro backed US patches that were traded and put on Canadian uniforms?
The picture does not show these uniforms being worn in theatre with the US patches on them. Anybody can slap a velcro backed badge on a uniform and photograph it on the floor.
From what we have been told, there is really no provenance and it is just a staged picture.

I just looked at a dozen photos of a friend who was embedded with US HQ at Kabul. He wears the 'Canadian' rectangular ISAF patch while his US counterparts wear the round one.
Not definitive but certainly indicative.
