Default 7th Dragoon Gds for dating

Gents a recent find, can anyone tell me when this pattern was replaced by the all brass example?

I believe it was circa 1906. However the void above the scroll was not part of the period cap badge design.

I have one of these from a Boer war collection and it has 3 lugs.

Looking, in particular, at the reverse image, I would not be happy with that and would return it.

It looks to me that the scroll has been 'peeled' back to create the void.
