Default WW2 Grenadier Guards shoulder badge colour

Hi
Just wanted to check about the colour of the Shoulder badges on this 1940 battle dress as these ones seem more maroonish than red. The ones I have seen for sale are red, not sure if these are ok?
Also are the stripes for good conduct?

Yes should be white embroidered on scarlet (red). It is possible that the photo has distorted the colour to a darker maroon shade. The two chevrons worn on the lower left cuff are for Good Conduct (5 years service).

Hi
No it's not distorted colour as I actually have the battle dress and the colour really does seem maroon, I am sure from the age, condition and where I brought the battle dress from that there not copies but are just that colour.

Default Grenadier Guards shoulder titles

Member gary gibbs is probably your man for an opinion. In the meantime here a few from my collection. You can see some colour variation, the one at the bottom is the current version worn on No2 Dress.

Has anyone got the knowledge to tell the difference between WW2 issue and post WW2? Thank you.

The colour of the embroidered designations was White on SCARLET until circa 1953, when the background colour was changed to RED, the shape was a thin sausage.

They disapeared on the introduction of Number 2 Dress and the metal badges worn on the shoulder straps.

They where re-introduced in 1993 in white on RED and in a fatter sausauge shape.

Hope this helps.

Hi
So do you think these are contempory to the battle dress, I am fairly sure they seem ok but would welcome your opinion.

I do not see anything wrong with them, the colour is possibly due to washing.
