Hi, would anyone have any info on this Scottish badge? It measures about 58mm. Is this Scots Guards?

A Victorian Scots Guards pipers waist belt clasp badge?

Rgds,

Thomas.

Hi guys,
I'd say it is The Scots Guards Piper's Edwardian waist belt clasp.

Best regards,
Phil

Hi,
A very handsome badge, thanks for showing it.
Most plaid badges had a brooch fastener so Thomas's suggestion of a waist belt badge seems valid.
What are the initials in centre, TR? IR? Definitely not VR.
Cheers, Tinto

Tinto, I think it is TR in the center. What would that stand for?

Hi,
That's a good question! Possibly a member of the Royal Family?
Cheers, Tinto

Hi all,
this is the only other example I've seen of this badge: http://www.bluebellmilitaria.co.uk/myarchive/240.jpg

And here is its description (if it may help):
A rectangular burnished and silvered plate approximately 3.25 inches by 2.5inches with the four corners clipped.
A wreath of thistles surrounds the Star of the Order of the thistle. To the centre the strapped quoit bears the thistle motto"NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT" and within the quoit the Edwardian monogram.
The fixed loop and clip are present but the adjoining loop is absent. The front device is secured by 2 wires.

The letters in the middle are R and E and are part of King Edward VII's monogram.

If one compares the Bluebell image with the one posted here, the cyphers differ. The Bluebell is indeed Edward 7th, the one posted here has "VR" which stands for Victoria Regina.
The Scots Guards pipers waist belt clasp badge assumption was based on an image of the current EiiR cyphered version as shown in Hodges.

Rgds,

Thomas.

Here's a scan of the cypher. It looks like a VR to me know that I look closer. Would anyone have approx. dates for this. I know Queen Victoria's reign was 1837-1897.

It looks like VR to me too and her reign was from 1837 to 1901.

Cheers
Jim

Hi All,
Yes, the cypher would have to be a VR, albeit indistinct.
Cheers, Tinto
Nice badge!
