Default PAOLIY Officer Badge

Hi All
I have had some correspondence with Griff regarding this badge, which he thinks is possibly a fake, mostly because the period that it would be worn was 1903-1908 and period photos only show officers wearing bullion badges.
This has the correct tang & lug arrangement of the period and I have never seen fakes with these fitted.
I believe it is original but not known but if I'm wrong I need to get a refund.
Opinions welcome!
Cheers,
Alex

Alex,

i am by no means an expert on the Regiment but I do know a bit about badges of that period and I can say that the badge is not of the quality to have been made or worn at that time.

My conclusion therefore is that it is a modern fake intended by its fittings to deceive.

regards

I agree, the quality is poor IMO.

I have attached a genuine die stamped silver Officers IY collar from the period..... just to underline the difference in quality.

K&K has a collar badge shown in the book..... it is not a cap badge. Also.... the Albert's Crest was not worn in SA (it appeared in 1903/4). One PAOLYC badge was worn in SA ....and that was the bullion LYC badge worn on the IY FFScap by one or two officers ..not all (see below).

Without even a glance at the reverse, I have to say the obverse is really very crude, so much so, that I would certainly not be at all happy with that and would seek a refund.

Here are another couple of "less than genuine" LIY badges from the same stable.... one of them cost me £70 Alex..... so we all make mistakes ;0)

* If you look carefully at the I.Y. scroll you can see where they erased the "YEO"..... so the mould badge was a post 1908.
