Tyneside Irish- Opinions Please
Hi All,
I've just picked this Tyneside Irish badge up, obviously I'm hoping it's ok, any thoughts? Michael |

The void between the crown and the neck of the harp is a good sign, Michael. Looks like the correct EW fastenings have been replaced with NS ones, but otherwise OK to my eye.

It's a good original cap badge so nothing to worry about! PY.

Hi All
I believe this was a shoulder title (Denis Wood #480) and the Tyneside Irish wore the Northumberland Fusiliers Grenade badge as a cap badge. Cheers, Tim |

That was my understanding, although there are photos of the badge being worn on the cap.

Leigh is right although I have ever only seen one of it in the cap but many, many more of the standard NF badge with the harp as shoulder titles. I have seen at least one studio photo of the titles being worn as collars.

Has anyone got a photo or link to it being worn as a cap badge? Be interesting to see. I’d only seen shoulders and one pic on collars before now.

Lugs
The early Reid & Sons issues all had lugs e-w, later issues during the war are found with n-s lug layout. Although this one has been relugged.
