Default 2nd Bengal Lancers collar?

Hi all,

Can this be a collar badge of 2nd Bengal Lancers? It's post to be made of silver but unfortunately no hallmarks.

I tried internet but not much in there. Are these badges rare and worth to pick up or common enough? Not my main area of interest but I never say no a good badge that gives me a learning option.

Thanks

On the basis that the identical design was used on their buttons then I would say yes, 2nd Bengal Lancers.

As to originality, rarity etc I do not know.

Hi there - according to Nath's definitive book on the Indian Cavalry - "Only officers wore this particular badge sometime between 1895 and 1903. It was also worn as a collar badge. Both Silver and Bronze examples have been seen"

Its illustrated in his book P42 ( C1.7.10 ) - Regards Tim

Here is an example of a 2nd Lancers shoulder title from about the same period.

Appears to be a collar, with modifications done to wear as a brooch. The one I have is die struck and not cast as this one appears to be.

Good eye, Piffer! I'd missed the fact that it is cast.

What is the size of the badge? Could it be a brooch? the size will tell. Normally these badges were die struck.
