Is this little button hiding a secret ? Or just wishful thinking ?!
Hey
Odd button, its quite thick and the back turns when you try and unscrew it It is a bit heavy (or maybe I want to think it is) , it has a little line along the edge could that be to get at it or is that just how this was made ? could it be a compass inside ? Any thoughts are appreciated T And it may be for sale for a penny or pounds depending on what it is |

Some RAF buttons had a small compass inside them, as an aid to escaping if shot down.
Also, have you tried hanging the button from a piece of cotton and seeing if that line faces north?

The buttons with compasses in I've seen have unscrewed, depending on era, some unscrew counter clockwise, others clockwise (to fool the dastardly hun).

Hello T
If it unscrews, undo it all the way and see what's inside! Some buttons are loosely put together though and the face will just move round and round the base without coming undone. Roger |

Button hiding secret
Quote:
I think our other colleagues have already answered this question, but all the compass buttons I have seen unscrew. Large ones and small ones. Is it large or small (tunic or pocket)? See attached images. Poss just another manufacturing method? |

Little secret
Hi,
I think our other colleagues have already answered this question, but all the compass buttons I have seen unscrew. Large ones and small ones. Is it large or small (tunic or pocket)? See attached images. Poss just another manufacturing method? Did you try it on cotton, to see what it did? All the best TB |
