Im not much into collars, but this pair made my “that’s cool” detector go off when I saw them.

They are a nice set for sure. Looking down the barrel of the MG.

Mark,

they look nice. There is no picture of these collar badges in Cross' First World War Canadian Corps Badges (Ed 1).

Thanks guys… I found an article in Small Arms Review by Robert Segel covering the various Canadian MG badges. There’s an example of this collar pictured therein (though it doesn’t appear to have any remaining finish).

Default Variations of Caps and Collars

In the interests of sharing, I thought these images of 3 different caps and 2 different pairs of collars to the 4th MMG may be of some interest. Enjoy

now, that’s an impressive group! Which actually brings up another question…

Along with this pair of 4th Co collars, came a cap badge of the 2nd Battalion (attached herewith). I initially thought there was no connection. But, according to Cox, the 4th Co was absorbed into the 2nd Battalion in 1917. Would it be reasonable to conclude that men of the 4th Company would have continued to wear the distinctive collars along with the 2nd Battalion cap badge?

Hi Bill,

Yes, along with a number of other MGC cap badge 'oddities' I have in my CEF collection.
