There were Highland and Lowland ( and Welsh ) company`s in the original Rifle Volunteers formed in Liverpool in 1859/ early 1860`s but they became part of the Consolidated and Administrative battalions and eventually lost their individual identities.
A picture of one of the buttons of the Liverpool Highland Rifle Volunteers in my collection is attached. It was not until 1900 that the scots resident in Liverpool again had their own volunteer unit. P.B.

A blackened brass NF that appears 'parkerized' rather than painted.

Here is a Grenadier Guards cap badge and an Artificer’s Hammer & Pincers badge both of which have been ‘Parkerized’ probably by a battalion armourer who had access to the process when repairing for example SMGs and magazines.
