I'm not sure it's Firmin & Sons as I've never seen it as F&S. The stamp F&S was found on RLI Queens crown officer's badges made from silver and with the hallmarks of Birmingham. My belief is that the F&S stamp for silver was actually Fattorini & Sons Ltd.
I have also been unable to find that Firmin and Sons actually made silver badges. |

http://www.silvercollection.it/ENGLAFATTORINI.html Whether this mark or similar was used by Firmin on non silver items I don't know as I have not been able to find any info that Firmin made sterling badges. I have written to both Firmin and Fattorini to seek clarification. This badge was made in 1962 and I have another one that was made 1961. RLI.jpg |

Fattorini uses a single "F&S" mark, Firmin three separate as on your badge? "F" "&" "S". I don't think Fattorini ever made official Army badges?

MAKERS MARK F & S
IF THE BADGE IS A FULLY HALLMARKED BADGE SHOWING 'F&S' AND THE ANCHOR FOR BIRMINGHAM IT IS NOT A FIRMIN & SON BADGE.
THE ONLY SILVERSMITH IN BIRMINGHAM WITH A REGISTERED MARK OF 'F&S' IS THE FIRM OF FATTORINI & SON. THIS ONLY APPLIES TO SOLID HALLMARKED SILVER BADGES. HAPPY TO STAND CORRECTED CHEERS OUTLANDER |

Hi Guys,
My Southmead Hospital Nursing badge, given to me by the Hospital in Bristol when I qualified there as a Staff Nurse in 1980, has on the back: THOMAS FATTORINI REGENT ST BIRMINGHAM and also these associated hallmarks: Anchor Lion 'E' There is also the jewellers mark of: 'TF' Image attached but regret, of poor quality. Regards, Chris |
