Legend had it - and probably with a smidgen of truth - that the Royal Warwicks museum had a few Monty battledresses and a few berets, left to them. There was a tale that a couple of (post-war) items were sold to wealthy Americans for what were then handsome prices. But this one? By the poooor General's badge - if not intended to deceive, then a theatrical prop, methinks.
(In any event, it's better than the one the Monty impersonator the museum use for events [he's not bad, actually, but doesn't have the voice...] wears) |

He appears to have a stock of nearly all fake/copy items and has already sold a few from looking at his feedback.

Seems like Monty's double may have had several berets as well!
Refer "I Was Monty's Double" by M. E. Clifton James, pub. Rider and Company, London, 1954. Cheers, Tinto |

Read carefully. The legend is that they were sold to wealthy Americans. That the museum has several of his jackets is beyond question.

Just how many 'Monty's Beret's' are there? So far we have one at the Tank Museum at Bovington, one at Warwick, and now also one at the IWM in London.

I Used to know the son of a former Chindit who had one. He brought it round to show me but was not willing to part with it, I know it seems far fetched but I don't think it was fake, It was a tailor made beret with a silver plate Tank Regiment badge and the other in usual bullion. His dad had had it since the war but the story as to how he got it was lost, He was well aware that there was more than one and his theory was that Monty would occaisionaly present one?
, I wish I had taken some pictures. Kevin
