Royal Devon Yeomanry ARTILLERY A/A
Hi guys
Amongst a collection of RDY/Devon Territorials bits I was given a number of years ago by Sqn Sgt Mjr R Hawkins (who ended his military career with the unit) were two A/A badges - the Royal Devon Yeomanry A/A and the Royal Devon Yeomanry Artillery A/A badge (with long slider). Now, having scanned through the posts on the forum, it seems that the RDYA badge is a scarce badge - is that correct? I note one sold at auction (Bosleys) but am unable to see what it made - does anyone know? Looking forward to your replies Shawn Last edited by brimacombe; 03-10-11 at 05:47 PM. |

Hi Guys,
The Royal Devon Yeomanry 'Artillery' badge is an elusive badge in terms of any information about it. The only official documentation that I can find is a sealed pattern card dated the 28th May 1964 and held in the Imperial War Museum in London. Maker was Firmin. Regards Chris |

It would appear that the badges made it at least as far as the depot at Barnstaple in Devon...

Hello,
Is the badge silver anodised or a light gold? I didn't know they did a silver a/a RDY Artillery? Cheers Chris |

Hi Chris, the RDY artillery badge is gold anodised. I've found that the sliders on these are prone to breaking. They are weak at the point of the right angle of the slide.

It's in Chris Marsh's book as 1950s'. There is a minor error in that the rarity of the gold artillery one and the modern silver RDY have there price codes transposed. In reality the gold is the very rare one.

Another one found on eBay. Buy now for £125. Makes me wonder how scarce this badge is?

Hi Bess,
I understand that but two have appeared within a week. Does anyone know if this badge was issued in numbers or was it a limited issue? Best regards, Ian |
