Default Help needed - RN OM(C) 2

Good evening,

I recently purchased a pair of Gulf War medals, OSM and Iraq medal named to a RN sailor.

His rate is OM(C)2.

The medals were issued around 2005. I cannot find what this rate is.

Is it a defunct rating? Does anyone know what this badge would look like?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Doug

The OM bit stands for Operator/Maintainer. Previously there would have been one rating who operated equipment and another that maintained it. In order to save costs these two roles were combined in the mid-1990s. That meant that one rating would be responsible for both using equipment and fixing/maintaining it. These changes didn't only apply to communications.

Thank you all for the replies.

Does anyone have a picture of what the old OM(C) Operator/Maintainer (Communications) rating badge looked like?

Is it the same as the CIS rating badge without the letters CIS?

Any further help is much appreciated.

Doug
