Burma Rifles buttons
Does anyone know what buttons were worn by the Burma Rifles? I am guessing that they were the generic black hunting horn type but they may have had specific Burma Rifles buttons.

This website has a close up:
http://www.rothwell.force9.co.uk/bur...les-Maymyo.htm I think these are standard black 'hunting horn' buttons as you suggested. There is not enough detail to see if the button has additional letters or symbols. picclick has this link: https://picclick.co.uk/Indian-Army-2...654080567.html Last edited by btns; 05-12-19 at 10:29 PM. The second link is interesting as they were part of the Indian Army as the 20th Burma Rifles from 1922 until 1937, they had previously been the 70th Burma Rifles. They must have used a button without the number 20 between 1937 and 1947. |

I have just noticed that the 20th Burma Rifles button sold for nearly £82.

Am not sure Simon, but think i have somewhere seen a metal Burma Rifles button. Or maybe it was Mayo College which is very similar.

Yes, thank you for posting. That is the button worn between 1922 and 1937 and I am guessing that they wore a similar button without the number 20 after 1937.

They did indeed, until 1942. The peacock was larger and filled the button.

Simon, Ashok tells me they had both horn and metal buttons painted black. Have asked him to send a photo if he can locate them in his collection. Will share if I get it.
