Philip,
Interesting, but does not mean it's genuine.

We ought to have a Forum Christmas competition to find the best "tale" giving provenance to an item for sale on E bay.

Peter,
Would the genuine WW1 REME badge be a contestant, or the Victorian Para badge?

If I start to sell stuff on EBay, I might use this;

This original genuine badge was discovered along with some other stuff, that I will be listing later, inside a small tobacco tin in the bottom of my Mother’s sewing box, that had been handed down to her by my Grandfather after Grandma had no further use for it. He said that most of the contents belonged to his Mother and Father from Victorian times, although it is thought the tobacco tin could have belonged to his Cousin who served in the Army through the Boer War, the Great War, and later something to do with the ARP (whatever that is) anyway the badge is very old as it has been in the tin for years.
Please remember I am not an expert on military things and will describe them as best I can, this is a metal badge with a crown, see picture.

Marc,
You are cheating! you have lifted that straight off ebay.
Don't forget the 'No returns accepted on this item'

The description is about as believable as his spelling & grammar are correct.

Or:
I do not normally sell military badges, but when cleaning out my widowed aunt's house we found a large quantity in my uncles old bureau.
