Default lapel button Old Newspapers Branch NRF

lapel button Old Newspapers Branch NRF Prince of Wales' plumes.

One more of my bought-to-research items.
This old lapel badge is full of clues, but I have not been able to find it.

It has:
NRF
"Old Newspapers" Branch
Prince of Wales's Plumes

The handstamped number 959 is presumably the membership number. It was made by Firmin & Sons Ld, London. It was made as a lapel badge, using regular button making tools. It is 26.5 mm.

Anyone?

NRF - (Prince of Wales)National Relief Fund

"A National Relief Fund was set up with Edward, Prince of Wales, as treasurer, to help the families of serving men and those suffering from "industrial distress". In a message in national newspapers, he said: " At such a moment we all stand by one another, and it is to the heart of the British people that I confidently make this earnest appeal." Within a week, donations to the fund had reached £1m."

"Old Newspapers" Branch - Possibly went round collecting old newspapers for recycling , they were worth money for the fund.

Wow,
Thank you very much.
It opens up opportunities for renewed research.
(I went through my 1952 Whitaker's foundation section, but it is not in there)
best regards,

Results:
The National Relief Fund had a great start in 1914 with lots of donations and initiatives:

This page shows the logos used:
https://www.wopc.co.uk/delarue/national-relief-fund

The fund was wound up around 1923, see the notes of the House of Lords of 18-4-1923:

All I got from Google were old newspapers

Old 'Almanacks' are great for identifying clubs, societies, organisations etc. but one needs more than a couple of them.

Thanks again.

Hi

I think that I have an enamel badge for the B.E.S.L. "National Relief Fund". The P.O.W. feathers had me fooled until I found that it was : "British Empire Services' League" and I then made the connection with the Prince of Wales.

The Prince was known as "The Soldier Prince" or "The Prince of Smiles" according to my late dear old gran. I understand that there were ceremonies held in Australasia in 1920 where ex-servicemen "handed in" their M.M.s and D.C.M.s so that the Prince could "present" them to them again from his hand......
