This will be complicated by the fact that lanyards on sale now don't just come from Second World War military stockpiles; stuff you find at militaria sales can be from police, boy scout, or any number of other organizations.

Default Veterans Guard of Canada lanyard

this photo of my grandfather in WW2 shows the design of the Veterans guard of Canada lanyard but I am not sure of the color. Possibly gold and red?
