Essex Yeomanry
What is the size of an early Essex Yeomanry cap badge? Is it the same size as the collar?

Hi Colin,
For a comprehensive resource covering the badges of the Essex Yeomanry, I recommend Michael Wood’s (a friend and fellow Forum member) book and website https://www.essexmilitarybadges.uk/t...ssex-yeomanry/ This should address your question, cheers Dean.

Thank you Dean for the mention :-)
Colin, when you say early do you mean Imperial Yeo period or the first pattern worn as EY from 1908? In general terms you'll find cap and collar are same size allowing for slight manufacturer variation. The fixings are of course quite different for each and certainly help inform which type the example is. As ever it is in the detail.. If you can advise what your particular focus is I can try to add. Sorry for the delay but I have been out with the Army on exercise. Here is the badge in question. It is 1 3/8 inch high by 1 inch wide, Colin

No worries Colin.
The dimensions are right for a GM cap or collar badge but on seeing it I have a couple of other concerns: 1. finish - it doesn't look to be the usual gilding metal colour, or is that hiding under the patina? 2. the lugs, both colour and the feet, are very unusual for this badge Michael |
